Tour Schedule
8.15am – Explore Catalunya Office, opposite the Palau de la Musicá
You will join your tour at our main office, which is right across from the world famous Palau de la Musicá, where you’ll be introduced to your guide who will give you an introduction to the day. Your tour will start at 8.30am, but we always recommend arriving 15 minutes before. There are restrooms available, and a cafe nearby if you want to grab a quick coffee or sandwich before your tour begins.
8.30am – El Mercat de Santa Caterina, Barcelona (Breakfast)
Your first stop of the day will be the famous Merca de Santa Caterina food market. Unlike the very touristic Boqueria Market, El Mercat still retains its traditional charm and has escaped the crowds of tourist seen at other markets.
You can still the locals doing their weekly shopping from a vast array of stalls selling the very freshest sea food, meats, and vegetables. This authentic atmosphere makes for the perfect setting for you to enjoy a traditional Catalan breakfast, featuring cured meats and cheese, fresh bread with tomatoes, and a glass of wine or coffee.
10.00am – Example District, Barcelona
You will leave Barcelona though the Example district of town, famous for its modernist architecture. As you head out of the city, your guide will give you a brief history of Barcelona, before letting you sit back and relax on the 90 minute drive to your next destination.
11.30am – Marganell, near Montserrat (Olive Oil Tasting)
Marganell is a small, sleepy village, and home to many of the local cheese and honey producers. You will stop here briefly next to a small olive grove where your guide will tell you all about olive oil production in the region and treat you to an olive oil tasting right beneath the olive trees.
1.00pm – Sant Cristofòl de Castellbell, near Montserrat (Lunch)
Sant Cristofòl is situated in the foothills of the famous Montserrat mountain, and enjoys magnificent views of the North side of Montserrat. Before lunch we will take you to a partially preserved Romanic church dating back to the 11th Century. This is one of the very few remains Romanic churches this far from the Pyrenees.
Right next to the church is where you will also enjoy a traditional Catalan lunch in a converted Medieval farmhouse. This beautiful family owned restaurant serves delicious Catalan cuisine in a truly Medieval setting.
3.00pm – Montserrat Mountain
After lunch, you will drive up towards the amazing Montserrat Mountain. The journey takes you to the very edge of the North side and then takes you around the mountain and towards the wine growing region of Penedes.
3.30pm – Olive i Batllori, Penedes Wine Region (Wine Tasting)
Your final stop of the day is at the delightful Olive i Batllori family owned winery. With a rich heritage, and a passion for wine making, your guide will personally lead you around the vineyards, and down into the cellars. You first tasting takes place deep underground in the heart of the cellars, before going outside to enjoy fantastic views of the surrounding vineyards and another tasting. You will leave here about 5.30pm.
7.00pm – 7.15pm Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona
We end the day back in Barcelona in Plaça Catalunya. From here, you can easily take the metro or a taxi back to your hotel. Otherwise, your guide will be more than happy to make some recommendations of where to have dinner.
